Decor Ideas for 4th of July Entertaining

When it comes to celebrating the 4th of July, I find that simple is best – the fireworks are the main event after all. I like to gather a small group of friends for a laid back barbecue, which requires minimal food preparation and a few decorative touches. To keep things festive, it’s fun to incorporate some patriotic colors into the mix. I’m a big fan of our red and blue striped pillows, our new Spako serveware is both fun and festive, and of course, I’ll be wearing a red statement sandal.

Setting the table doesn’t need to be complicated. Creating a simple area for guests to nibble and sip on beverages creates a relaxed atmosphere for everyone involved. I’ll use any excuse to show off our new Spako Clay dishware. These small batch, one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces are handmade near Austin, Texas and the gorgeous red and blue pattern is perfect for your holiday celebration. I love to use the platters to display appetizers and the tiny bowls are great for dips and nuts.

I try not to use plastic whenever possible, so I pull out my everyday glassware for casual get togethers. These Anjou Water Glasses are suitable for everyday, but look refined and can be used for a variety of beverages, from water and juice to ice tea and wine. They also pair well with the Lyonnais Carafe, which is perfect for small gatherings and makes any beverage (even water) look special.

Adding a simple floral arrangement is a great finishing touch for your 4th of July celebration. Since I already incorporated festive colors elsewhere, I kept the flowers simple and elegant. I like to gather buds from my own backyard or pick up a simple arrangement at the farmer’s market. The Medium White Texture Vase keeps this arrangement from looking too formal.

While it’s been mostly June gloom around here, when the sun does peak out I like to have a couple hats on hand for guests. That way they can be comfortable while they continue to enjoy the outdoor festivities. Our handwoven straw hats come in a variety of styles and provide UPF 50+ sun protection. My custom designed pillows are great for adding a festive touch to outdoor furniture. I layered a Striped Grain Sack Pillow with a Blue African Mudcloth Pillow for a patriotic play on patterns.

In addition to festive decor, it’s fun to add a little something to your Independence Day outfit. I can’t pass up a great statement sandal and the Pella Rivets Sandal from Ancient Greek Sandals is one of my favorites. The pop of bright red pairs well with light blue denim for a casual, yet elevated look.
