Caroline’s Farmhouse Update + Travel Home

My favorite time of the year is Fall, and there’s no place I would rather be than our Hudson Valley Farmhouse in upstate New York. The slightly cooler days, early evening light and overall cozy vibes that only a 1700s Dutch colonial farmhouse can offer are a treat. Plus, with sketchy cell service and wifi, we have to unplug. There is always something to be done when Jeffrey and I arrive, whether it’s cleaning cob webs, wasp nest removal (we had three new colonies!) the start of a bathroom remodel, general interior updates or acres of yard maintenance. But it’s so satisfying and therapeutic to tidy up the place as we continue to add to the character of our historic home and breathe life back into it.

We are also preparing for a very exciting upcoming event. The Farmhouse and I were recently featured in Caitlin Flemming and Julie Goebel’s new book Travel Home: Design with a Global Spirit. This gorgeous travel design book showcases over 20 designers and I’m honored to be included alongside Nate Berkus, John Robshaw, Vicente Wolf, Malene Birger, Carolina Irvin and many more.

The book’s official release date is September 24th, but you can pre-order today at dianiliving.com. To celebrate, join Caitlin, Julie and I for a special book signing in Germantown, New York on Saturday, October 12th. Stay tuned for more details, and in the meantime, enjoy a little peek into our historic home away from home.

As early evening approaches, we like to slow down, turn on a record or two and curl up with our pup Nala in the living room –where the original hardwood floors and ceiling are one of my favorite features in the house.

Right: Skull Shot Glasses, $20

To compliment the natural light in the guest bedroom, I brought in Linen Bedding, a Vintage Wooden Bench and a few plush pillows.  This is Nala’s favorite room in the house for afternoon sun bathing…

…and bird watching.

When I spotted this antique wooden cupboard I knew it would be the perfect fit in our dining room. We use it to house fine china, everyday dinnerware (like these Lace Salad Plates, available at DIANI Living), glassware, and cutlery.

Part of this property’s charm is the lush overgrowth that you can only find on this side of the country. Right now the weather is still warm, but there is a coolness in the air that settles you down for the season ahead.

Thank you for joining us on our journey as we renovate and preserve the original architectural details of this historic gem. For more on our Hudson Valley Farmhouse and for all Travel Home book signing updates, follow us on Insta @hudsonvalleyfarm.
