As I get older and my businesses continue to evolve, my quality of sleep becomes more and more important. I can no longer pull all nighters and instead, I’ve come to value getting a solid seven or eight hours of sleep. With that in mind, I know that my quality of sleep will either leave me feeling rested, rejuvenated and on top of my game for my team or groggy, tired and reaching for sugary snacks. With running a business and traveling, it’s hard to maintain a consistent sleep schedule. However, I try to incorporate a few things into my evening routine to help me relax, unwind and get a blissful night’s sleep.
PLUSH PILLOWS & BEDDING
As we all know, there is nothing better than getting into a freshly laundered bed. I’m a firm believer that the right sheets can make or break a good night’s sleep. My personal favorite is our Linen Sheet Set. Pillows are another must in creating a snooze-worthy sanctuary. Recently, I’ve been incorporating these Striped Bolster Cushions on my bed and I’m obsessed. CALMING OILS & INCENSE
One of my personal sleep challenges is turning my brain off at the end of the day. While it helps to jot down my thoughts, I also like to incorporate natural calming rituals to clear my mind. TURN OFF THE TECH
It’s easy to fall into the trap of checking emails or scrolling Instagram in bed – we are all guilty of it, I know I am! Unfortunately, it’s the last thing we want to be doing to get a good night’s rest. The blue light given off by phones and computers affects levels of the sleep inducing hormone melatonin, which we need to go to sleep and stay asleep.
I try to unplug at least an hour before bed and opt for reading a good book or listening to a podcast to help me relax. Some current favorites are Many Lives, Many Masters given to me by a good friend after I lost my two beloved dogs this past year, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up because I’m on a constant quest to organize all my paperwork and drawers and The New Health Rules which is my gentle reminder book when I need inspiration to stay on track.
