The September Edit With Caroline

While it’s not officially fall just yet, it is September and I’m ready to say goodbye to summer and welcome the fall season and all the layers that come with the shift. As the days become shorter and the evenings cooler, I can feel myself inspired to do some updates in my wardrobe and around the house. And I’ve been stocking the stores with all my fall finds too - think statement cardigan coats and suede clogs, textured baskets for storing blankets, bath mats, and CBD bath salts for luxurious soaking. So for September’s edition of The Edit, I’m sharing my curated collection of favorites for your wardrobe, bathroom and nighttime routine.

As the seasons shift, so does my wardrobe. I’m slowly adding in a few staples that easily transition from warmer to cooler weather. I currently have my eye on this plaid statement jacket from Isabel Marant Étoile. It's lighter than a full coat and perfect for layering.

Denim is a wardrobe staple year round, but I’m more in the mood for jeans from here on and this vintage wash from Citizens of Humanity is a new favorite. The slim straight silhouette and high rise makes it an everyday fit that goes with anything. I’ll be pairing mine with this Isabel Marant Étoile chunky pullover for a pop of color and this suede heeled clog.

A lightweight sweater is essential this time of year, and Lauren Manoogian makes a beautiful lightweight crewneck that I can’t get enough of. The neutral color and draped silhouette is relaxed, yet chic. Style with these leopard ballet mules for a look you’ll wear now and later.

A cashmere wrap is a fall staple and I love this new fringed one from Madeleine Thompson – I wore it almost everyday while on a recent getaway to Big Sur. Mix up your bag collection with the Lino Banane, a versatile crossbody that also wears well on the hips. It’s perfect for travel or a day spent around town.

A sleek sneaker is a favorite fall find and I love this high top from Golden Goose. It’s crafted from smooth leather with the brands signature leopard star and has a very wearable neutral tone with just enough of a color splash.

My bathroom is my sanctuary and this time of year I like to update it with a few cozy additions. There's nothing more luxurious than new towels and I recently added these cotton ones to layer with my collection. I love the grey stripe print and light weight feel. I also brought in this organic cotton bath mat in a grey hue, it’s super absorbent and soft. Woven baskets are a favorite way to store extra towels or blankets, and I’m currently loving this one.

When it comes to my apothecary picks, I like them to be clean and effective. Mater Soap makes this hand and body soap that's 100% organic and plant based. I love the Arbor scent for its warming blend of sage, rosemary and vetiver. This pumice stone is great to have on hand to keep feet and hands looking and feeling fresh. Plus, it's pretty too.

To elevate my bathroom, I’ve added in my favorite bud vases (here and here) by Yokwe Ceramics. Handcrafted locally in pretty earth tones, these vases are a perfect addition to a bathroom and great for displaying a few dried or fresh stems.

Crystals have a way of evoking calm and wellness and this one is a beauty that would look stunning on a shelf or by the side of a bath or in front of a window.   vibes.

Adding art to a bathroom easily gets overlooked, but I find it can really transform the space. This print by artist and hubby, Jeffrey Doornbos is calming and joyful – the perfect piece to hang on a wall in the bathroom. It's called Local Time Mbwa (Mbwa means dog in Swahili) and was shot in Watamu, Kenya. The stray dogs would come down to the water each morning to play together and clean themselves off. It's a beautiful memory from our trip and I'm so happy to have it captured.

Lately I’ve been embracing the shorter days and tucking in for the evening a bit earlier. To help me unwind and settle in, I’ve updated my nighttime routine with a few favorites that got overlooked in the summer when I was spending so much time outdoors at night.

These CBD bath salts are back in rotation to help with relaxation and promote restful sleep. Post bath I like to apply this Susanne Kaufmann body butter, made with shea butter, olive oil, chamomile and sage. It’s a must when the cooler, drier weather kicks in. And this luxurious silky robe is a favorite to relax in before bed and throw on in the morning.

Luxe meets laid-back with these amazing shearling flats. They're great for puttering around the house to make tea before heading off to sleep and, let's be honest, they're good enough for any fall look at work or out for dinner. And when it comes to pajamas, I love how lightweight, breathable and soft these cotton ones are.

I like to organize my bedside table with sleep-inducing essentials, and one of my new favorites is this organic lavender sachet. I started making them from all the scraps from my DIANI napkins and cushions. I hate wasting, especially when the fabric is so special. And when I found high quality organic lavender, I put the two together. It’s perfect for tucking into a bedside drawer, in with your lingerie, or anywhere that needs a fresh, relaxing scent. I’ve been using this incense bundle and holder for a while now and lately it’s been living by my bed. It burns the loveliest notes of patchouli, cardamon, clove and vetiver – and it’s giving me all the fall feels.

Lastly, this Calming Temple Balm goes with me everywhere (including a recent getaway to Big Sur). It’s formulated with a soothing blend of plant extracts and CBD and can be used throughout the day and into the evening. I like to apply it to my pulse points to help induce sleep.

After a busy summer, I always look forward to slowing down a bit come fall. Curating a collection of fall favorites inspires me to embrace the seasonal shift and all the beauty it has to offer (I'm looking at you sweaters and bath salts). Happy September, friends!

Sending lots of love,
