The New Year's Edit With Caroline
Just as I love the festive energy leading up to Christmas Day, I also enjoy how the holiday spirit lingers into the New Year. So for this month's edition of The Edit, I’ve put together a collection of celebratory favorites for ringing in the New Year. From a sequin jumpsuit and cozy cashmere cardigan, to etched champagne glasses and a chic corkscrew gift box, these are my picks for going out, staying in and stocking up the bar.
Even if it's only a small gathering, a night out on New Year’s Eve calls for sequins. So go all out with the Ash Jumpsuit, a head-to-toe one piece with a halter neckline, plunging front keyhole and a flattering self-tie belt that cinches at the waist.
Alternatively, the Adria Jumpsuit has it all, a dazzling style with a comfortable fit. Made from a lurex knit fabric, this metallic long sleeve one piece features an off-the-shoulder detail with a self-tie waist. To complete your look, pair with the leather Vicky Sandal from Alexandre Birman.
If you’re looking to add a touch of glitter to your New Year’s Eve look, the Lucy Jacket is a new favorite. This sequin blazer has a relaxed fit and a drawstring tie to define the waist. I’m styling with this basic tank and this maxi skirt, and for a touch more sparkle, accessorizing with this Diamond Tapered Bangle and Diamond Oval Pendant from The Woods collection.
Keep it basic with the silky Aaliyah Dress, an all black midi length with an a-line silhouette. The jersey blend fabric gives this dress its slinky feel, and the long sleeves and turtleneck make it perfect for winter. Layer the sequin blazer or your favorite coat and a heel for a classic, chic look.
For separates, the Eloise Blouse is perfect for pairing with your favorite black pants or jeans. This relaxed blouse has chiffon billow sleeves with a mock neckline, back neck tie and camisole slip. Or ring in the New Year in velvet with the Sloan Skirt, an allover pleated skirt made from shiny velvet that pairs well with anything – from a pullover sweater, to a silk cami, blazer and heels.
If staying in is more your speed, dress for the occasion by taking your loungewear up a notch. Starting with your slippers… the Anna Shearling Slippers are a chic take on a classic house slipper. Made in Italy from 100% natural shearling, this open toe slide is comfortable and uber stylish.
Wrap yourself up in the Long Shawl Cardigan from Lauren Manoogian. Made from the softest felted alpaca, this cardigan has side pockets and falls right below the knee for cozy comfort you won’t want to take off. I’m pairing it with the Paola Ballet Mule, a slip-on leopard ballet flat in Italian leather with classic bow detailing.
Cashmere is made for at-home celebrations, like the Fornax Scarf from Madeleine Thompson. It features a ribbed knit and is lightweight enough to be worn from day to night. Or the Pub Cashmere Coat, a duster-style cashmere cardigan with long rib knit sleeves and an open front. The fine gauge weave makes it light enough for layering, but warm enough for at-home lounging.
Bundle up to watch the ball drop with my favorite Zeit Throw. Handcrafted in Barcelona from the highest quality Merino, this at-home staple is a cozy essential you’ll have for years to come. Set the mood with this beautiful Sumac Wax Candle Set, made from all natural ingredients and perfect for a New Year’s Eve dinner.
Comfortable yet chic, the Mixed Stitch Jumper is a favorite for wearing in. It features a roomy silhouette with loose three-quarter length sleeves. And to keep your feet cozy, these Dapple Crew Socks are made from a slub cotton knit for a unique vintage look and warm feel.
Stock up your at-home bar with all the New Year's Eve essentials, starting with my favorite festive glassware. When it’s time to pop some bubbly, the Etched Champagne Glass is my go-to, with a beautiful botanical engraved design and a weightless feel that gives it a timeless elegance. For the liquor lovers, this Crystal Whiskey Glass is a favorite. It’s handmade with mouth blown glass and has a rounded bottom and classic design. And for serving cocktails, the Crystal Gin & Tonic Glass from the same collection will make any mixed drink feel luxe.
Take cocktail hour to the next level with some of my favorite bar accessories, like the Verre Fluted Decanter. The hand blown design is a stunning addition to any table top or bar cart. For the wine lovers, I recently invested in the Oeno Motion Tresor Lever Corkscrew. It's made from solid wood and chrome in a curved design for a smooth bottle opening experience, plus it stores in a beautiful wooden box.
Before drinking that special bottle of wine, pour it into this French-inspired Lyonnais Carafe. This gives the wine time to breathe to bring out the flavors, plus it has a lovely 19th century La Rochere design inspired by the Florentine renaissance. When it’s time to serve, these dark grey Lyonnais Wine Glasses are perfect for holiday celebrations.
Need some cocktail inspiration? The award-winning Cocktail Codex is Jeffrey's go-to guide for all things drinks. It provides the root recipes for six basic cocktails that you can use to create new variations – like Jeffrey’s Big Apple that I posted here. And when you’re ready to wrap up the evening, I like to top my bottles with handcrafted Bottle Stoppers from local artist, Peter Horjus.
As we wrap up the last week of 2021, here's hoping these picks for celebrating the New Year will inspire you and your festivities. Whether you're dressing up, lounging at home or pouring a drink, I wish you all joy and love going into the New Year.
