The March Edit With Caroline
Tomorrow ushers in the first day of spring, and as we emerge from winter, I’m excited to welcome this new season. With the huge amounts of rain we’ve been getting in California, and the snow days on the East Coast, spring can feel a little out of reach. But in anticipation of the change for the better, I’ve been filling the stores with everything we’re going to be needing, from dresses, blouses and sneakers, to inspirational reads and gifts for giving (and receiving). So for this month’s edition of The Edit, I’m sharing my curated collection of favorites for your wardrobe, coffee table and gifting needs.
Nothing says spring like a crisp white button down, and I'm coveting this Oversized Boxy Button Up from R13. This shirt plays well in any season and that’s one of the many reasons to love it. Style with the Boyfriend Jeans from R13, and on warmer days, the Margaret Leopard Horsy Sandals from Golden Goose. The versatile slip-on design and feminine shape can be dressed up or down and worn well into summer.
With sweaters still on rotation, I love having a fresh, lightweight option that's suitable for layering. The Sissy Striped Sweater from St. Roche is made from a blend of alpaca yarn with a puff sleeve silhouette and pointelle stitch detailing. Style with jeans or pants, and it's great for travel too. Need an extra layer of warmth without the bulk? Meet the Tyra Jacket from Mackage. Ultra soft and unlined, this expertly handmade jacket is tailored for a relaxed fit and tie wrap feature. It can be worn with just about anything – the options are endless.
A military-inspired jacket is a classic spring staple, and this year I’m loving the Gaspard Jacket from Nili Lotan. It’s cut from a heavyweight cotton canvas with an oversized silhouette, and the effortless fit is perfect for throwing over a blouse, sweater or dress. A stylish sneaker has become a wardrobe must - it’s equal parts sporty and chic and gives any look an edge. For spring, I’m obsessed with the Running Sole Sneakers from Golden Goose and I’m pairing them with everything in my wardrobe – pants, denim, and dresses.
The Lea Dress from Saloni is one you'll wear again and again. The silk fabric and bias-cut allows for a breezy fuss-free fit and the floral embroidery adds an extra special detail. Style with strappy heels for an elevated look or keep it casual with a sandal. And don’t forget to give your handbag a spring update. I’ve been eyeing the Jerry M from Jérôme Dreyfuss. It can be worn as a messenger bag, shoulder bag or cross body and the fringe detailing is removable.
I’ve been spending some time updating my coffee table, and flipping through the pages of a few new design books. Happy Home Hideaways is part of a book series from Finland, and highlights beautiful summer cottages – or hideaways in Finland. I also love Dear Old Homes: Nordic Houses With Charm, which features a variety of Finnish homes that preserve the ambience of period houses – from log houses to lofts by the sea and an Art Nouveau villa.
A great gift to give or keep is the Book of Friends, a wonderful keepsake book filled with questions to be completed by you and the people in your life. Flipping through these shared memories is a delightful way to reminisce, and makes the perfect coffee table book. As we prepare for spring gatherings, Festive: Life Is A Celebration shows you how to pull off any kind of party with finesse – from a birthday and graduation to a classic dinner party.
A few other bits and bobs that I keep on my coffee table are this clear glass Balloon Vase, which is perfect for fresh spring blooms and a seasonal candle, like the Citrus Grove Candle. Hand blended, poured and finished, with fragrances of pomelo, ginger and white musk – an invigorating, refreshing scent for spring. And I always have matches nearby to light a candle or the fire, and these Nest & Eggs Matches are my favorite for the season.
Always pleasant to look at, the Dandelion Paperweight is a crowd pleaser. It showcases a perfectly preserved dandelion head handpicked in the UK before being dried and encased. And to keep everything organized, the Rattan Cayman Tray is made from a durable woven rattan for a natural texture that goes well in any space.
With Easter, graduations and weddings on the horizon, I've rounded up my favorite seasonal finds for gifting. Complete your spring outfit (or your friend's) with the Raffia Moon Bag. Handwoven in Madagascar with a cotton lining and a chain shoulder strap that can be worn on the shoulder or across the body, it's an easy accessory to any outfit. A fresh, new fragrance we just started carrying for spring, the No. 12 Bousval Perfume from Maison Louis Marie is inspired by warm summers with scents of orange, bergamot and cardamom, as well as ginger flower, eucalyptus and oak moss.
It’s time to get in the garden again, and these are the accessories I’m reaching for this season. These Pruning Shears are lightweight, durable and made with a needle-nose tip for easy pruning and shearing. And to keep the sun off of my face, the Gardener Lattice Hat has been my go-to for years. Handcrafted in Mexico from palm straw, this hat has a stretch headband, secure nylon strap and a lockstitch weave to prevent unraveling. Last year we used seeds from Hudson Valley Seed Co and had some great results, so this year I’ll be using their seeds again. One of my favorites is the Salad Savor Mix, a lettuce-free mix of arugula, baby bok choy, mizuna and more.
For collecting or gifting, this handmade Lace Oval Bowl looks lovely on a tabletop or displayed around the home. It’s handcrafted in Santa Fe, New Mexico by artist Lucrecia who uses a low impact process and reusable materials. Whether you’re dining indoors or out, my exclusive line of linens, inspired by our NY Farm called The Stone Jug, are perfect for any table setting. The Slate Wall Stone Washed Striped Napkins are best sellers.
Preserve the beauty of spring with our new Flower Press book. Collect flowers and leaves from around your home or while on a walk, and the kit comes complete with eight sheets of corrugated card and sugar paper to press your foraged finds.
There is much to look forward to in the coming months and I hope my spring picks for your wardrobe, coffee table and gifting needs help kick off this new season. Happy spring, friends!
Sending lots of love,
Caroline
