The January Edit With Caroline
Even though winter can look a little different from coast to coast, keeping cozy this time of year is a common goal we all share. With the fluctuating temperatures, I always have an extra layer nearby for when I’m heading out or when the inevitable evening chill sets in. And when Sunday rolls around, lingering in bed past my alarm is one of my favorite winter activities. So to keep warm, stylish and comfortable, I’ve curated a collection of my favorites for this month’s edition of The Edit – from luxe lounge pants and a cashmere poncho, to cozy beanies and all the essentials for lounging in bed.
I’m always reaching for an extra layer at some point in the day, so having a few options on hand is key. Right now I’m loving the classic cable zip up jumper from Mr. Mittens, which has a thick cable stitch, oversized collar and boyfriend fit. Another favorite is this cashmere zip sweater - it's lighter weight, but equally as cozy, and the classic design and relaxed shape is a staple you’ll wear on repeat.
I can’t get enough of this alpaca coat from Lauren Manoogian, I like to throw it on over a tee or dress for added warmth. The wide silhouette is perfect for layering and the felted wool fabrication makes it super soft. Pair it with these base pants from the same designer, for a luxe meets casual look.
The cashmere blend poncho from Madeleine Thompson can be worn over almost anything for a cozy, chic look. Style yours with these black cashmere tights and my favorite chelsea boot from Aeyde. Both stylish and sturdy, this ankle boot is made in Italy with a heavy rubber sole for a non-slip grip.
When I’m keeping it casual, any sneaker from Golden Goose is my shoe of choice. These new Slide Sneakers are 70’s inspired and made from 100% leather with a high top silhouette, patterned laces and the brand’s signature sparkly logo. And to keep your head cozy, this striped cashmere hat is warm, yet lightweight enough to be worn all day.
Bundling up in the winter doesn’t have to be bulky or boring. My favorite way to add warmth and style is with a hat and/or scarf, and we have a variety of options for every occasion. Starting with our best-selling cashmere fray wrap, a handwoven oversized scarf with frayed hems that also doubles as a wrap. It can be draped comfortably over outwear and is available in four classic colors – ivory, black, grey and tan. Another cashmere favorite is The Luxe Scarf, which also has fringed trim and doubles as a blanket while traveling.
I love how the right hat can instantly elevate any look, from a baseball cap to a beanie, the options are endless. One of my favorite styles is the fedora - it’s sleek, stylish and warm too. The Karina Felt Hat is perfect for taking a basic outfit to the next level and the Jamie Hat has a similar fedora style, also handmade from felted velour. And for a printed option, this Leopard Fedora makes the right kind of statement while still being a versatile neutral.
When temperatures drop, a cozy beanie adds style and warmth to any winter look. I’m obsessed with the Carpenter Hat from Lauren Manoogian. It has an oversized, structured fit and is incredibly soft and warm. I wear it almost every day this time of year when I'm in NY. For a lighter weight, the Ara Hat is made from 100% cashmere with ribbing detail and is another fan favorite.
Last, but not least, a chic baseball cap adds an effortless cool vibe to any look. An ode to my second home, the NY Yankees Cap is handcrafted from felted velour and features a handmade NY sign.
Lingering in bed is the ultimate weekend luxury, especially when temperatures outside are in the single digits (-1 here in NY today). So get cozy with some of my favorite in-bed essentials....this cotton Pajama Pant Set from Mirth is a year-around favorite, and I love the soft feminine feel of the floral print. To keep your feet cozy, the Anna Shearling Slipper is made in Italy using 100% natural shearling for a chic take on a classic house slipper. And for a lightweight layer, the Heron Robe Gown is a beautiful addition to wear around the house.
Sunday mornings are for starting new books, so for those of you looking for elegant readers, the Hooper Reading Glasses are my favorite style and the light yellow tinted lens isn't just for show - they block blue light. Add an extra layer to your bed with the Zeit Wool Throw, a handwoven household favorite crafted in Barcelona using traditional wooden looms. And one of the books I'm tucked into currently is The Fortnight In September, a magically uplifting novel about ordinary people and life’s simple pleasures.
For the ultimate breakfast in bed, swap out your morning beverage for this special drinking chocolate. It’s made from raw organic Peruvian cacao, turmeric root powder, and sweetened with coconut palm sugar for a treat you can feel good about. Serve it up in my favorite handmade Lace Mug on this Braided Raffia Tray for the full hotel at home experience.
Winter is a time for settling in and going with the flow of nature. So may as well bundle up in style, and recharge those batteries. Simple pleasures can feel luxurious and we all need reminding to take that time. I hope this Edit inspires you to do the same.
