The August Edit With Caroline

Come mid-August, we begin to feel that slow, subtle shift of the seasons. This transition from summer to fall is a favorite of mine and I’m stocking the stores with everything you need as we look forward to the next chapter of the year – think sweaters and silk skirts, plush rugs and candles, lounge pants and immune-boosting superfoods. So for August’s edition of The Edit, I’m sharing my curated collection of favorites for your transitional wardrobe, home and wellness routine.

Transitioning a wardrobe from summer to fall is all about slowly layering in cooler weather pieces. Lately I’ve been reaching for a cozy sweater in the mornings, like this yummy oversized high neck from Anine Bing. I like to wear it with this light wash, wide leg jean from Citizens of Humanity. And once fall hits, I’ll be ready to add these tall leather boots into the mix with a silk midi skirt or a skinny jean.

Another staple to add to a transitional wardrobe is a checked flannel, like this one from Isabel Marant Étoile. I love the boxy fit, which is comfortable while still feeling feminine. I’m pairing it with this grey wash, crop denim jean from Citizens of Humanity and a pair of Golden Goose sneakers

A statement jacket has the power to complete any look, taking you from summer to fall with ease. I currently have my eye on this lightweight jacket from Isabel Marant Étoile. I love the versatility of the color tone, rich twill weave and the exaggerated shoulder is perfect for layering over a dress, tank top or blouse and sweaters come fall and winter.

For sunnies, this menswear-inspired pair will be my go-to. I love the classic aviator shape, gold wire frame and dark green lenses. They feel like fall, but are neutral enough to wear with everything, season after season.

Adding a bit of fall to your wardrobe can be as simple as swapping out your handbag. This Isabel Marant Étoile crossbody is the perfect everyday option. The two-tone suede and minimal design pairs with anything and the elegant construction keeps you looking elevated and chic.

As we think of spending more time indoors for the season ahead, I'm planning transitioning my rooms to create a warmer, cozier environment. First up is lighting and these basket lamps are a favorite. They add soft, ambient lighting and texture, plus they're available in three sizes that can be hung together or individually.

What better way to prepare for fall than to give your home a rug refresh. Not only do rugs add texture and color to a space, they also provide a warm landing spot for your feet during the cooler months. We recently launched the DIANI rug collection and this Northumberland rug has been a favorite. The warm colors and antique-inspired print is perfect for fall. Layer yours with these cozy floor cushions to create a meditation or reading nook.

Set the mood with our best selling Cashmere candle. Hand blended, poured and finished, this scent features hints of chamomile, amber woods and patchouli. And come prepared with the Motli light, a rechargeable lighter and LED flashlight in one.

Switch up your tabletop decor with a new vase from Yokwe Ceramics. This local Santa Barbara artist is inspired by Scandinavian and Japanese designs and uses natural earth tones to complement any interior. I like to fill mine with freshly cut olive branches or dried flowers, like these globe thistles. Give some love to your favorite photos with this marble picture frame, a beautiful addition in any room of the house.

No matter the season, I always like to have a throw nearby to cuddle up with, and this beauty is at my farm in NY. Handcrafted from French Merino wool and baby yak wool, this cozy throw features a tile design inspired by architectural patterns.

As we approach fall, my wellness routine shifts a bit to prepare my body and mind for the change in seasons. Since temperatures haven’t dropped quite yet, this cotton hoodie and lounge pant from Raquel Allegra is lightweight enough to wear now, but also layers well in the cooler months. Pair with these retro sneakers from New Balance for a relaxed look you’ll want to live in.

At my age sunscreen has become a year round staple. In the summer I started using this new mineral sunscreen from Salt & Stone. It’s lightweight, water resistant and super clean, so I’ll definitely be using it through the fall. Keeping up with a shaving routine is not on the top of my list. But I recently started using this safety razor which is made from brass and features a single blade. I now experience less irritation, plus it's more sustainable than a plastic razor and cost effective too.

As temperatures cool down, our bodies become more stagnant. To revitalize and stimulate circulation, I use this massage brush a few minutes before hopping into the shower or bath. To keep my immunity strong, I’ve started incorporating this Superfood Honey. It's made from 100% raw sustainably-sourced, enzymatic honey, royal jelly, raw bee pollen and bee propolis extract. Drizzle a spoonful in your smoothie, on toast or over yogurt, or as a restorative face mask. I also love this Yin Power herbal tonic to boost my immune system and help to harmonize my entire body as the seasons change.

In my last blog post I touched on the topic of aging (read here). As I continue to discover what aging means to me, I’ve been reading this amazing book and highly recommend it. It’s a great guide tackling some pretty achievable goals with regards to all things health and wellness.

As we prepare for the new season ahead, I hope my curated collections help to transition your wardrobe, home and wellness routines. While I enjoy the warm, California weather, I'll be day dreaming of fall days to come both here and in NY.

Sending lots of love,
