The April Edit With Caroline

I always look forward to this time of year as an opportunity to declutter, organize, and welcome in the birth of new beginnings - whether that’s in my personal life, around my home or in my closet. So far I’ve officially said goodbye to heavy coats and scarves and hello to spring wardrobe staples, updated my interior with seasonal decor and scents, and now I’m getting ready to plant our spring garden. So to kick off April’s edition of The Edit, I’ve curated a collection of my current favorites for your spring wardrobe, home and garden.

Maintaining a wardrobe that welcomes the often unpredictable seasonal changes is key this time of year. I find myself switching from this linen poncho during the day to a short puffer jacket as the evening cools. I love this short biodegradable style - the pop of color and baseball cut make it a great pick for spring. I’ve also been reaching for this cotton canvas chore jacket from Jesse Kamm. The silhouette has a slight swing, which is great for layering and the color pairs well with just about anything.

A cotton button up shirt is essential for spring and it makes any outfit feel fresh and put together. This oversized style features a unique striped print that I like to pair with my favorite denim. Recently, I’ve been living in this relaxed vintage pair from Citizens of Humanity. With a nod to the 90’s, the high rise and boyish cut is the style I’ve been craving as I transition out of sweats.

When it comes to spring footwear, I like to keep a few different styles within reach. I’m currently coveting these Golden Goose sneakers, which feature the brand’s iconic low-top style with an updated snake print on the heel. I also have a few boots in rotation, like this classic ankle cut. They're easy to throw on with denim, pants or even a dress when you’re not quite ready for sandals.

Anytime I need to freshen up my look, I add a seasonal accessory. When I’m out and about or traveling, my go-to bag is a large tote to carry all my necessities.  I’ve had my eye on this versatile linen one from Jerome Dreyfuss, which can be worn over the shoulder or hand-held, and comes with a pretty leather pouch. Since warm scarves are no longer in rotation, I’ve been tying or draping this chic cotton bandana around my neck.

We all spend a lot of time indoors during the winter months, so come spring, I’m ready to give my home a little refresh. Right now I’m turning to neutral accents to brighten up the space, like layering these best selling felted sheep rugs by my bedside, on a chair and draped over a bench.

An interior design tip I’ve learned along the way is to rotate your accent pillows and throws with the seasons as it works wonders to freshen up a room. For spring, I’ve got my eye on this lightweight cashmere blend throw and beautiful floor cushion. Both pieces are handwoven on traditional wooden looms in Barcelona using sustainable materials, plus the neutral color palette looks lovely in a variety of interiors.

This woven basket plays double duty in my house – keeping me organized and as a work of art. Handwoven by female artisans in Rwanda using sisal fibers, this basket can be hung on the wall or used as a table display. I also love this botanical print by Denmark-based artist Henrik Dybdahl to freshen up a kitchen,  bathroom or hall wall space.

Switching out your candles and bringing in new, seasonal fragrances is one of the easiest ways to give your home a refresh. I’m currently obsessed with this Lavender and Rosemary scent, it's already become a best seller. And when I do have fresh flowers on hand, I’ve been arranging them in this pretty ceramic vase.

To update my table setting for spring, I’ve added to my growing collection of Spako Clay ceramics. This serving dish is beautiful filled with a fresh salad or pasta dish and pairs with a variety of other dishware. It also makes a great bowl for lemons or limes sat on a kitchen counter. I’m also loving these cane napkin rings which feel fresh and perfect for indoors or out.

I’m excited to head back into the garden, where soon enough we'll have fresh veggies right outside our door. This year I’m getting a little more organized with the planting process. I’m going to use these seed labels, which help identify each plant, and this seed chute to assist with sowing the seeds. It’s also nice to have a ball of twine like this on hand, especially when the plants get bigger and need some support.

Jeffrey and I started working on our kitchen garden last year and this book was a huge help when it came to planning the layout, constructing the beds and building the deer fence. If space is limited, I love this self watering herb kit. The year-round indoor planter comes with everything you need, just add water and a sunny window.

When it comes to gardening gear, I have some favorites that I’ve used for years. This handwoven hat comes with me everywhere. It works wonders to keep the sun off my face and the nylon strap keeps it in place. These garden gloves have extra long cuffs to protect my arms from scratches, bites and sun exposure. Plus, I love the pretty floral print.

It also helps to dress the part. Made from quality denim and featuring front pockets, this multi-purpose DIANI Living apron is great for the garden. Jeffrey and I designed the apron in collaboration with Citizens of Humanity over five years ago and it's a favorite of many to this day. I’m also excited to take these Jesse Kamm overalls for a spin. Dubbed “workwear for the ladies” these are perfect for spending a day outdoors while still feeling chic.
