How Caroline Styles One Blazer 4 Ways
In the spirit of making life a little easier, I like to have a small assortment of seasonal staples in my wardrobe that I can wear for a variety of occasions – from a day at work and dinner out, to weekends away. And currently I have a Smythe blazer that’s checking a lot of boxes and helping create easy looks with effortless, neutral pieces . And since temperatures are still a bit cool, a blazer is the perfect lightweight layering staple. To show you some ways I style a blazer for spring, I created four looks using just one perfectly tailored blazer.
Now that white jeans are back in rotation, one of my favorite ways to style them for work is with a classic blazer. Cue the Smythe blazer. Both structured and boxy, this cropped style wears well with a variety of denim cuts, but I particularly love the Crop Mid Rise Loose Fit from AGOLDE. My go-to tank is the Eva from Anine Bing in black and for a comfortable metallic strappy sandal, I'm loving the Samira Braided Wedges. For a slightly different feel, I swapped out the black Eva tank for the same style in the stone color. I like to add texture to a neutral look too, so I brought in the Lulu M handbag in raffia, with The Ranch Neckerchief tied around the strap. It also looks great worn around the neck or around a ponytail.
Styling a blazer with a skirt or dress can really transform the look – making it elevated or casual depending on how you accessorize. Since I'm creating a capsule collection that has a few easy pieces that are interchangeable for several looks, I'm picking black for several base items. For this tonal outfit, I wanted to add a pop of print and texture, and again, the Smythe blazer really delivered. I’m wearing the knit Timor Skirt from LouLou and the Eva Tank in black. The skirt is made from a silk and cotton blend and the ribbed knit and side slits create an ultra flattering silhouette, and, in my opinion a year round wardrobe must-have. To complete the look, I'm wearing the super versatile and comfortable Troublemaker Wedge sandals.
A blazer and trousers are like peanut butter and jam – the two are just meant to go together. I’ve always loved this classic look and fall back on it frequently when I’m wanting to make things easy. I paired the Smythe blazer with the Billie Pants. They're made from a pleated knit and have an easy elastic waistband and slightly flared leg. I love how relaxed and comfortable they feel, while still being dressy. Under the blazer I’m wearing the Cashmere V-Neck Pullover, which is light enough for spring, but still keeps me warm on cooler days. And to complete the look, I have on the Troublemaker Wedge sandals again to give me just the right amount of height.
A black dress is a classic closet staple, and when you make it a maxi stretch rib knit, the styling options are endless. Meet the Erdan Cashmere Dress for a look that's elevated, but could be worn everyday. This season-less dress is made of ribbed knit fabric, and has a half button placket detail which gives it a slimming silhouette for all body types. I layered the Smythe blazer over and buttoned it to give it some shape at the waist. I also added the Kirsten Flat from Aeyde and the Lulu M handbag as a crossbody. This outfit is perfect for traveling and can easily go from day to night with a simple swap from flats to heels.
An outfit isn’t complete without jewelry, and my go-tos are an assortment of gold bracelets. My everyday favorites are simple gold bangles that I've worn for decades (see similar here), but when I want to add a little bit more, I’ll layer in a few more like the Capsule Link Bracelet, Sayo Cuff and Delicate Dash Cuff.
A well-made tailored blazer has limitless styling options, and the looks I created here are just a few examples of how you can begin your styling journey. As you may have noticed, having a few favorite neutral pieces is super helpful in creating the framework for an outfit, so you can add in prints, color and texture where needed. As always, I'm here to help along with all our stylists with any styling questions you might have. And on this special day, wishing all the Mothers out there a very Happy Mother's Day.
