Caroline's 7 Days Of Spring Style
As we welcome spring, I’m beginning to transition my wardrobe with lighter layers. And while some of us aren’t putting our coats and boots away just yet, I think we’re all ready to incorporate those pops of color, prints and dresses into the mix. Spring can bring unexpected weather, so layering is a favorite way to handle both warm and cool temperatures, and with a core collection of spring staples that I can mix and match, dressing for the season becomes that much easier. So I’ve put together seven spring styles to inspire a seasonal refresh for your wardrobe too.
A cozy yet lightweight jumper, like the Sissy Striped Sweater from St. Roche, is perfect for layering on cool spring days. Stripes offer a fresh take on a bulkier winter sweater and this elegant style can be worn a variety of ways. I’m wearing it here with the Dylan Rolled Crop Jeans from Citizens of Humanity and the ballerina style Gina Flat from Aeyde. And for that extra layer of warmth, I have my tried-and-true favorite Sydney Sweater over my shoulders for those chilly times of day.
One reason I love this look is that it's easily elevated with a few simple swaps. I added the Oversized Blazer from Smythe and I’m particularly drawn to this style because it has a comfortable loose fit and chic gold statement buttons. It’s easily a year round wardrobe essential. I also swapped out the flats for the Trouble Maker Sandals from Aquazzura. They have a fashion forward pointed toe with slim tubular straps that wrap around the calf, and I love how they give even boyfriend jeans an upgrade (and me some extra inches).
As I get older (and wiser), I’ve begun to realize that if you find the right shape dresses for your body, they can take all the guess work out of those days where you just don't know what to wear. And the Teroli Dress from Vanessa Bruno fits that description. The bohemian style feels relaxed, but the embroidered detailing and long elegant sleeves make it perfect for dressier occasions too. I’m wearing it here with the Natalia Platform Sandals, which perfectly compliment the gold accents in the dress. And for an added layer in the evenings, I’m draping the same Oversized Blazer over my shoulders.
If you're looking for a dress that will take you through spring and long into summer, the Tosh Maxi from Chufy is your dream dress. This gorgeous silk print has a voluminous sleeve and a loose and flowy body with a removable tie belt option. Pack this versatile dress for an island getaway, wear it to the beach or throw it on for day or night – the options are endless. I’m styling it here with the Mexico Sandals in beige from Soeur and layering the Sydney Sweater around my shoulders again for an extra layer of warmth when the chill hits. I'm also adding in my favorite leopard clutch from Jérôme Dreyfuss.
For a figure hugging, everyday dress option, I’m loving the new Lauren Manoogian Stretch Tank Dress. It’s made from an organic cotton knit fabric with a scoop neckline, back slit and midi length that elongates my petite frame. Not only is it super comfortable, but it’s a great staple for layering and packs well for spring travels. I’m wearing it here with the Lauren Manoogian Marl Simple Cardigan in a neutral jute color and the Running Sole Sneakers from Golden Goose.
I love a classic trench coat for spring and fall – it acts as a light, functional and versatile layer and is always chic. The new McKenna Trench from Mackage is probably my all-time favorite for many reasons, not least of which because of the detachable zip bottom half that transforms the coat into a cropped jacket, plus removable leather sleeves to convert to a vest style option. I’m wearing it here with the Soeur Poeme Shirt, Anine Bing Mathilda Pants, silk bandana scarf and Aquazzura strappy heels. Depending on the weather and occasion, you can easily add or take off the bottom or sleeves for three very different looks.
This Tyra Jacket from Mackage is made with a cozy shawl collar and the draped fit makes it perfect for light layering without any added bulk. I’m styling it here with the Cora Popover Shirt from Harshman, the Emerson Slim Boyfriend Jeans from Citizens of Humanity and the Francy Sneakers from Golden Goose. I also draped this Lauren Manoogian Base Crewneck over the shoulders for added versatility if, during the day, a sweater feels like a better layer of warmth than the jacket. This everyday look really has it all when it comes to interchangeable layers.
I've started to find my groove again when it comes to going out for dinner and drinks, and so my mind goes to elevated blouses and denim. The Nipoa Blouse from Vanessa Bruno is an effortless silhouette with subtle metallic shimmer striping. I'm pairing it with the Agolde Lettuce Waistband jeans, my favorite new Aquazzura heels and this Lulu Bag from Jérôme Dreyfuss. And for that extra layer, I'm wearing the Mackage Tyra Jacket again (jacket comes in black too here).
As the seasons change, so does our criteria for dressing, and making that transition with function and style in mind can be tricky. But with a selection of staples mixed into your wardrobe and easy, light layering, dressing for the change in weather can be really fun. And as always, being able to mix and match the pieces you have, is key to having a wardrobe that you look forward to pulling from. As always, I'm here to help.
