Caroline Shares Her Guest Bathroom Essentials

A center for self care, a space to unwind and a treasured spot for daily routines – the bathroom is a versatile and well-loved space in a home. When friends and family come for a visit, I like to give our guest bathroom a little extra love so they feel welcomed and pampered. I fill the space with some of my favorites, from cozy slippers and plush bath towels, to a soothing candle and silky soft robe. So this week I’m sharing a client's bathroom and how she has incorporated some of the essentials…

I encourage clients to treat the guest bathroom as if it were their own by stocking it with non-toxic products that they love and use daily. This luxurious Susanne Kaufmann Body Oil is wonderful for guests who've spent all day traveling and want to unwind with some pampering. Made from a blend of marigold oil, rosehip seed oil and jojoba oil, it moisturizes the skin with a subtle, yet lovely scent. I also like the Mater Holy Hand + Body Soap, made with 100% organic, plant-based ingredients and a blend of lavender, palo santo and patchouli. It's functional and pretty to have on the counter and the glass bottle is reusable.

To create a calming and relaxing environment, this Lavender and Rosemary Candle is a favorite. Handcrafted from soy wax and fragrance oils, it has a soft light and subtle scent that's perfect for those eager for a moment or two of calm.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve forgotten to pack an essential, like toothpaste. So it’s always a good idea to have an extra toothbrush and toothpaste on hand for guests. I like David’s Toothpaste - it's all natural, effective and made in the USA from recycled materials. I also set out a little tray, like this Round Rattan Tray, to keep all of these toiletries in one place on the counter.

No detail is too small when it comes to sprucing up a guest bathroom. A subtle touch of foliage brings texture and a natural element to the space, like a few stems of dried bunny tail in this handcrafted Tarpon Squash Vase. Since bathrooms tend to be on the smaller size, foliage is best kept simple and elegant so as not to overpower, but rather enhance an already beautiful space.

One of my favorite ways to brighten up and add texture to a room is to add a rug. Not only is it a soft and warm landing spot for your guest's feet, but it brings colors and prints together to tell a cohesive design story. For this space I used the Northumberland Rug in the runner size, which fits perfectly in narrow spaces, like in front of a sink and heading into the toilet and shower area. Traditional, yet timeless, this rug has a vintage feel but is water friendly and durable.

Nothing says luxury like a fresh set of plush bath towels. This is something I splurge on for myself and my guests, and I’m a big fan of these Organic Bath Towels. Not only do they hold up well after each wash, but they're also super absorbent without feeling too heavy. For this guest bathroom, I also layered in the Meyzer Tassel Hand Towel for added texture and interest.

Baskets are a functional, yet stylish addition in a bathroom to keep things organized. I'm using this Round Seagrass Basket to store a few extra clean towels and as a laundry hamper for used ones. Plus, it brings a beautiful natural texture to the space.

Organic Bath Towels and Aeyde Shearling Slippers

Keep your guest's feet feeling cozy and set out a pair of the Aeyde Anna Shearling Slippers. After hours of travel, slipping into these super soft slippers is an extra special touch that won't go unnoticed. We also added in the luxurious Heron Robe Gown. The elegant print and silky soft touch will be a treat to wear after a hot bath or shower. Don't be surprised if she wants to take it home with her :-)

When refreshing a guest bathroom, I like to imagine that it's my own and fill it with all the essentials that I love. This creates a personalized space where guests can feel at home. And don't underestimate the little things, like an extra toothbrush and shearling slippers - it all adds to the experience of being hosted by loved ones.

A special thank you to our client for inviting us into her bathroom to capture her favorite bathroom essentials.

Sending lots of love,
