Caroline Diani’s Hudson Valley Farmhouse Update
As many of you know, Jeffrey and I scored a once in a lifetime opportunity to buy a 1752 Dutch colonial farmhouse – dubbed the Hudson Valley Farmhouse – in upstate New York almost three years ago. We have been renovating and restoring our historical gem, while continuing to preserve its original architectural details. I really treasure the time we spend at the Farm and love to watch it slowly evolve as the season’s change and visits mount up.
Winter can be tough in this part of the world, and on our recent visit we had plenty of work (and play) to do. We shoveled several feet of snow, cleared away our share of mouse poo (yup, part of cohabiting in a stone house) and explored the beautiful snow covered fields. We also had the special opportunity to collaborate with Zio and Sons, a design and photography company in the Hudson Valley. They beautifully captured our Farmhouse and I’m excited to share it with you. Despite the rough weather, you will quickly see why winter is one of my favorite seasons at the Farmhouse…
This is one of my favorite rooms in the house…. You just can’t beat the huge stone fireplace and original exposed chestnut wood beams. During the winer months, I love sitting by the roaring fire while watching the snow fall. It’s the best spot in the house.
We knew instantly that this antique wooden cupboard would be the perfect fit for the Farmhouse. It’s great for storing fine china, ceramic platters and glassware. I love how the slanted shelving shows off some of our favorite pieces, like the lace salad plates we carry at DIANI Living.
When it comes to favorites, the kitchen is a close second. One of the original reasons I fell in love with this house was because it reminded me of the stone farmhouse I grew up in in England. The kitchen in particular brings back fond memories of gathering around the farmhouse table and sharing stories from the day. I love how well this farmhouse table fits in our Hudson Valley home. It’s a great reminder to step away from our screens and enjoy conversations with each other.
Vintage Wood Bench and Linen Bedding
I love how the original windows bring so much light into the bedrooms, it just makes the whole space look so dreamy. To keep with the light and airy vibes, I outfitted the beds in white, pink and light grey linen bedding. I love the luxurious lightweight feel of the Flocca Sheet Sets. Layered with a cashmere throw and a few of my custom design decorative pillows, you have an instant dream bed.
Thank you Zio and Sons for perfectly capturing our Hudson Valley home. Follow along @hudsonvalleyfarm as our journey with this historic stone farmhouse continues.
