5 Tips for Hosting Overnight Guests
‘Tis the season for welcoming friends and family into your home. When it comes to hosting overnight guests, I like to treat the guest room as if it were my own. By adding a few thoughtful touches throughout, it can instantly freshen up the space and make it feel warm and welcoming. It’s important that guests feel cared for, and the small things like a water glass on the nightstand and an extra quilt on the bed make all the difference.
1. Create a sleeping oasis.
At the end of the day there is nothing better than a comfy, cozy bed to place your head. I love to adorn the guest bed with our favorite Linen Sheet Set. Handcrafted and pre-washed for a soft, yet relaxed feel, these linen sheets provide the best sleeping experience. Who doesn’t love sinking into a bed filled with plush, pretty pillows? To compliment the bedding, I’ve added a few of my custom designed vintage fabric pillows in neutral shades like the Vintage Gold Floral Pillow and the Kesh Pillow in grey and white stripe.
2. Add in extra blankets and throws.
Everyone has a different sleeping temperature, so when you’re making up the guest bedroom it’s nice to consider your guest’s comfort level. For a relaxing night’s sleep, I like to fold the soft and plush Basix Linen Quilt at the end of the bed so it can easily get pulled up if guests get chilly. For those that sleep on the warmer side, I’ve also added The Ilse Throw, which is 100% cotton and a great lightweight alternative.
3. Keep a water cup bedside.
The bedside table is the perfect place to add simple touches that will make your guests feel at home. I’m all about the amenities, like adding a special water cup on the nightstand. I love to use our handmade Yokwe cups from local ceramicist Sarah Genuardi. I’ve also layered in a few books, including one of my favorites, the Barbra Streisand book. These are the little things your guests will notice, use and remember.
4. Set the scene with little luxuries.
Don’t underestimate the value of little luxuries. The glow of our Large Double Wick Candle and the sweet scent of patchouli and vanilla will instantly evoke comfort. Our Yokwe Vases are the perfect vessel for adding a few sprigs of fresh greenery. I mixed in our glass Highball Vase as well to add a little variation. I also love adding an elegant Ring Dish to the nightstand. There is nothing better than having a pretty place to put your jewelry after a long day of travel.
5. Pamper them with plush towels.
Re-create the experience of a hotel spa and set out your plushest bath towels. I absolutely love our Organic Turkish Towels, I reach for them time and again for myself and for guests. They’re super soft and extremely absorbent, but still maintain that sought-after plush appearance. I like to include a wash cloth, hand towel and bath towel for guests, especially if they’re staying for a few days.
Lastly, don’t forget to pamper your guests by setting out a few favorite body care products. May Lindstrom is my absolute go-to luxury in a bottle skincare regime and I love treating guests to that little bit of luxury too. Our newest line of skincare products from May Lindstrom are available as an in-store exclusive. Call 1.877.342.6474 or email customercare@dianiliving.com to place an order.
